I Need Help! Urgently!

Did that get your attention? I hope so!

On March 2 I will be going to Cleveland to shoot a short bit for Pokey's tv show.

I decided that I would show how to create an abstract from a photograph.

I have been spending days going through my photos and have not found anything that appeals to me.

Do you have a photo you are willing to share and let me use as a basis for an abstract small quilt?

Let me know....I will give the original photo credit on the show!

Hi Liz, I have a photo I took the other day of the sunset through the trees. There's also a fence and a shed in the image. Not sure if it'll work for you. I'll be happy to email it to you.

Hi Liz,
I've looked at your work and an abstract artist who may have some relevance would be Paul Klee. you can view a slideshow of his work http://www.metmuseum.org/toah/hd/klee/hd_klee.htm#slideshow1

I am an abstract painter with many works that I want translate into fiber art / quilts. Best of luck with this. Oh, just remembered, some Google images might be inspirational sources for you as well. ;)

Your quilts are tremendously inspiring!

Hi Liz, you're welcome to use any of mine too... if there's any you see on my blog, or have any particular subject in mind, let me know.

Same here, I've got thousands of photos, mostly nature and landscapes and closups of plants, but some good bridges and architecture as well. Take a browse through my blog, or give more specifics, and I'd be happy to help.

Surely the whole point of this program segment is to show the viewer how to take a photo, one of their own, and use it or part of it as inspiration to create an abstract design? You could use one of your own that you've already used - show them how you took an element - perhaps the basic shapes, re-arranged or re-sized? or the shapes repeated to form a pattern, changing scale and so on... The colours? maybe one colour plus some neutrals, as you have often done? I am sure you have some wonderful photos of your own, just pick one, out of a hat or other random method if needs be - time's moving on and you are frustrated or confused at how many choices you have right in your own collection. As you use it, you have the perfect opportunity to make the point that if they use their own they never have to hunt down a photographer to seek permission ... not a bad example to set, imho.

Hi Liz, I just did a post at Two Red Threads on a simple, free, online image processing utility called Sporkforge, with some before and after images. I'll be posting a similar story using the Picnik utility shortly. I have no association with either of these site, other than I like free and I like easy.

I'm sure that no matter what photo you use, the piece will be great. You're work is so inspiring and thoughtful. Would love to see the show. Let everyone know when it will air. Good luck.
